NMU EVENT FOCUSES ON PUBLIC DEFENSE REFORM

Maureen Dimino, who directs the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ indigent defense reform efforts, will be the featured speaker at a Northern Michigan University presentation titled “Our Constitutional Right to Counsel: Why Public Defense Reform?” The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in room Pioneer B of the University Center. The public is invited free of charge.
Dimino previously served as an assistant public defender in Miami Dade County. She is a co-author of the recently released report, “Minor Crimes, Massive Waste: The Terrible Toll of America’s Broken Misdemeanor Court.” NMU’s Student Law Forum and the Campaign for Justice are also co-sponsors. Refreshments will be provided.
