WNMU-TV BROADCASTING AT LOW POWER
Friday 23, 2009
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University’s public television station, WNMU-TV, is experiencing technical problems at its transmission tower. The station has lowered its power by about 50 percent and viewers may notice outages through the weekend—possibly longer—as engineers work to solve the problem.
Charter Cable subscribers are not affected. The disruption impacts viewers who watch WNMU-TV through Dish Network or over the air via smaller cable operators or antenna.
Eric Smith, director of broadcast and audio-visual services, said it appears to be either icing on the antenna or a failed part on the antenna or transmission line. A crew is en route from lower Michigan to assess the situation and determine how to repair it.
