PHOTOGRAPHY TALK AT NMU APRIL 9

Monday 29, 2010
MARQUETTE, Mich.—In conjunction with the “Mostly Michigan” photography exhibit at the DeVos Art Museum, Northern Michigan University professor Christine Flavin will give a talk on the history of social documentary photography. The presentation is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, in room 165 of the NMU Art and Design Building.

From Henry Mayhew’s London Labour and London Poor of 1840 to Abu Ghraib of 2004, Flavin will discuss how the portrayal of the underprivileged has changed in the post-colonial political arena with digital and cellphone camera technology.

The “Mostly Michigan” exhibit continues at the DeVos Art Museum through May 16.
