FESTIVAL ORGANIZERS SEEK FOLK ARTISTS

Tuesday 15, 2010
MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center is putting out a call for folk artists to participate in the third annual U.P. Folklife Festival. The application deadline is Thursday, July 1. Crafters, musicians, dancers, storytellers and others whose talents represent the region’s diverse cultural, ethnic and artistic traditions will be featured. The festival runs Sept. 10-11 at Northern Michigan University. Selected presenters will receive an honorarium for their participation and hotel accommodations, if necessary.

Unlike the previous two events, the 2010 U.P. Folklife Festival will be held outdoors. There will be performance, demonstration and food tents on the lawn in front of the University Center. There will also be a children’s area and different stages for music and other performances.

Folk artist application forms can be found online at www.nmu.edu/beaumier. Those who participated in last year’s event need only submit an application, not the accompanying materials. For more information, contact Daniel Truckey at 227-1219 or dtruckey@nmu.edu.
