MARQUETTE, Mich.—The 2010-11 season at Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre will offer a French farce, a Steinbeck classic, a movie-based musical and a journey to Neverland.

Season tickets are now available. Prices are $42 for adults and the general public and $28 for NMU students, plus a $6 processing fee. Single-admission tickets will be sold in advance of each production. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. on their respective dates, with an additional 1 p.m. Saturday matinee.

            The season opens with “A Flea in Her Ear” Oct. 6-9. Paul Truckey will direct this classic French farce by Georges Feydeau. It is billed as a masterpiece of marital mayhem and mistaken identities.

            John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” will be staged Nov. 17-20. This play explores the fragile friendship between migrant workers George and Lennie as they pursue the American dream in Depression-era California. Shelley Russell will direct.

            The musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” scheduled Feb. 16-19, is based on the film of the same name. Swindlers Lawrence Jameson and Freddy Benson cross paths on a train ride to a small French village. Their greed turns into a rat race to see who will be the first to con $50,000 from heiress Christine Colgate. The show will be the first directed by Ansley Valentine, who was recently appointed director of theater at NMU after James Panowski’s retirement.

            “Peter Pan” will close the season April 13-16. Shelley Russell will guide this non-musical adaptation of the J.M. Barrie novel about the boy who could fly and how he leads the curious Darling children on an adventure to his mystical Neverland.    

            An additional event not included in the season ticket package is “The Haunted Theatre” Oct. 29-31. The full technical resources of the facility—lighting, props and costumes—will be put to effective use raising Halloween spirits. This fundraiser for the First Nighters Club is directed by Marty Martello. Nearly 100 NMU students and Marquette community members were involved in last year’s inaugural effort.
