NCLL TOURS HISTORIC MINES

            MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will sponsor a walking tour of the 1864 Negaunee Jackson Mine and 1970 Jackson Old Towne at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12.

            Robert Dobson, Old Towne committee member and author of “The City Built at the Shiny Mountain,” will take participants to old mine pits, tunnels and streets of the “ghost” town area of west Negaunee.

            Participants can join a car pool at 12:30 p.m. at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, or meet at the mine location at 1 p.m. The cost is $5 and the registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 9. Contact Ethel Dobson at 475-5752 or Cliff Stammer at 228-9897.
