MARQUETTE, Mich.-Northern Michigan University's political science and public administration department will host presentations next week on diversity and human rights. Both are free and open to the public.

"Emphasizing Diversity: Stability in an Uncertain Economy" is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building. Brian Cloyd, vice president and chief diversity officer for Steelcase Inc. in Grand Rapids, will be the featured speaker. He is a national expert on corporate and not-for-profit diversity programs and issues. Cloyd is also a member of related national and state organizations and boards. He serves on the NMU Board of Trustees.

"After Evil: Politics and Human Rights" will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Robert Meister, University of California-Santa Cruz professor and author of Political Identity: Thinking through Marx, will discuss the rise of human rights talk and its deployment in societies with a past of injustice or atrocity. Meister's speech will be followed by a presentation, "Truth Commissions and Human Rights," by NMU professor Jonathan Allen.
