ORGANIST PERFORMS AT NMU

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Organist Igor Kriz will perform “Bach Before Dinner” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, in Northern Michigan University’s Reynolds Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. Along with several Bach pieces, Kriz will perform the premiere of a new piece by Peter Hamlin titled “Maailman Matti Times Seven.” This piece is math-centered and a take on the Finnish dancing and marching tune “Maailman Matti.”
Kriz, a native of the Czech Republic, is a mathematics professor at the University of Michigan. He has studied organ under another University of Michigan staff member. A player of keyboard instruments most of his life, he has performed many times on piano and organ.
This concert is being held in conjunction with the 2010 Mathematical Association of America’s Upper Peninsula Regional Fall Conference at NMU.
