"ONE BOOK, ONE COMMUNITY PLANS OCTOBER EVENTS"

MARQUETTE, Mich.-There are several events scheduled in October for the "One Book, One Community" program. All revolve around this year's selection The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, about a Jesuit mission to another planet.

The schedule follows. Events are free unless otherwise noted:

· A "War of the Worlds" presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. every Monday in October at the Shiras Planetarium at Marquette Senior High School. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and free for senior citizens.

· A showing of the film "Avatar" with dinner catered by Babycakes is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Peter White Public Library. Tickets cost $10.

· A public book discussion is scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 in the Peter White Library's Dandelion Cottage Room.

· An "Extra Solar System Planets" presentation given by astronomer Scott Stobbelaar will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Peter White Public Library.

· Snowbound Book Club discussion, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Snowbound Books on Third Street.

· Mary Doria Russell, the author of "The Sparrow," will participate in a reading and discussion of her book at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Great Lakes Rooms of the NMU University Center.
