"ONE BOOK, ONE COMMUNITY PLANS OCTOBER EVENTS"

            MARQUETTE, Mich.—There are several events scheduled in October for the “One Book, One Community” program. All revolve around this year’s selection The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, about a Jesuit mission to another planet.

The schedule follows. Events are free unless otherwise noted:

 

·         A “War of the Worlds” presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. every Monday in October at the Shiras Planetarium at Marquette Senior High School. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and free for senior citizens.

 

·         A showing of the film “Avatar” with dinner catered by Babycakes is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Peter White Public Library. Tickets cost $10.

 

·         A public book discussion is scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 in the Peter White Library’s Dandelion Cottage Room.

 

·         An “Extra Solar System Planets” presentation given by astronomer Scott Stobbelaar will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Peter White Public Library.

 

·         Snowbound Book Club discussion, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Snowbound Books on Third Street.

 

·         Mary Doria Russell, the author of “The Sparrow,” will participate in a reading and discussion of her book at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Great Lakes Rooms of the NMU University Center.
