MARQUETTE, Mich.— The Northern Michigan University Faculty/Student Jazz Combo will perform “A Tribute to Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Faculty members Mark Flaherty on trumpet, Steve Grugin on trombone and Jim Strain on drums will be joined by Tony Barrette on tenor sax, John Fay on guitar and Jon Letts on bass in this tribute to the legendary hard bop drummer. The program will feature music made famous by The Jazz Messengers, including compositions by James Williams, Curtis Fuller and Benny Golson. Original compositions by Flaherty and Letts will also be featured.
