'YOUR HEALTH' LECTURE ON WOMEN'S CANCERS

Friday 28, 2011
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Endometrial and ovarian cancer will be the focus of the next Your Health public lecture at Northern Michigan University. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, February 3, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The public is invited free of charge.

Dr. John Risinger, director of gynecologic oncology research at Michigan State University, will cover basic facts and research priorities for each cancer and explain why one is often detected early and the other is not. Risinger and a team of researchers have helped to identify, isolate and clone the KA11 gene that prevented the spread of prostate cancer in animals. He previously directed the women’s cancer program at the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Center in Savannah, Ga.

Your Health is designed to provide qualified, general health information to area residents through a collaborative effort between MSU’s College of Human Medicine, NMU, Marquette General Hospital, the U.P. Health Education Corp. and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
