MEDICINAL FOODS AND PLANTS OF GREAT LAKES BASIN DISCUSSED

MARQUETTE—Dr. Tieraona Low Dog will present “The Medicinal Foods and Plants of the Great Lakes Basin” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in Northern Michigan University’s Reynolds Recital Hall. She will explore the rich pharmacy of natural foods and herbs in the basin, from the antioxidant power of raspberries to the stress-protecting properties of ginseng. This event is taking place an hour earlier than previously indicated. It is free and open to the public. 

As a clinician and educator, Low Dog has been involved in national health policy and regulatory issues over the past decade. She was appointed by former President Bill Clinton to the White House Commission of Complementary and Alternative Medicine and then became a member of the scientific advisory board for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. She is now director of fellowship at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. Low Dog has received numerous national awards, including NPR’s The People’s Pharmacy Award for Excellence in Research and Communication for the Public Health. She has also appeared on ABC’s 20/20 and CNN.
