MARQUETTE, Mich.—George Knight and Paul Dornquast will perform the next concert in the Beaumier Coffee House Series as part of the Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in the University Center Peter White Lounge at Northern Michigan University. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.  

A descendant of the famous country duo the York Brothers, Knight has performed for more than 40 years throughout the United States and Europe.  Born in the South, he now lives in Gwinn and keeps active with his band Bordertown, the Wednesday Night Music Club and his many benefit appearances. A prolific songwriter, Knight writes about the events and people who have shaped his life, which he refers to as “Experience Alley.”

Dornquast is a familiar fixture in the Marquette music scene, having performed his original songs as a solo artist for more than 25 years. He has also been a member of the bands Plaid Billygoats and Orange Whip. Dornquast’s finger-style approach is rooted in the folk elements of guitar legends Bruce Cockburn and Leo Kottke and his original songs are reminiscent of the late Warren Zevon.
