Black History Month Events at NMU
Friday 10, 2012
MARQUETTE, Mich.-In honor of Black History Month in February, Northern Michigan University's Black Student Union will host two upcoming events. The public is invited free of charge.
The first event is a Black History Month Tribute Program, which will highlight the accomplishments of past and present African-American pioneers. The tribute will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Great Lakes Room of the University Center.
The second event is a mock slave auction at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the Spalding Hall lobby. Organizers will demonstrate how slaves were bought and sold in order to give students a first-hand look at the slave culture in the United States during the 19th century.
