Black History Month Events at NMU

Friday 10, 2012

MARQUETTE, Mich.—In honor of Black History Month in February, Northern Michigan University's Black Student Union will host two upcoming events. The public is invited free of charge.

The first event is a Black History Month Tribute Program, which will highlight the accomplishments of past and present African-American pioneers. The tribute will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Great Lakes Room of the University Center.

The second event is a mock slave auction at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the Spalding Hall lobby. Organizers will demonstrate how slaves were bought and sold in order to give students a first-hand look at the slave culture in the United States during the 19th century.
