William Mather Presentation Offered
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Historical icon William Mather, who served as president and chairman of the board of Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, will be the subject of a free program co-sponsored by the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning and the Marquette Senior Center. The event is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in the community room of Peter White Public Library.
Sandee Smetana, author and member of the Ishpeming Historical Society, will discuss Mather’s roots, accomplishments and lasting remnants of his legacy, which include the model town of Gwinn, Cliff’s Cottage and Mather’s Grove. He was a visionary leader whose innovative ideas reflected concern for employee welfare.
