NMU Homecoming Set
MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University’s 2012 Homecoming celebration will feature activities for NMU students, alumni and community members Sept. 16-22.
The annual Dead River Games with NMU student groups will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Dead River Bridge. The king and queen competition, emceed by comedian Adam Mamawala, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the University Center Great Lakes Rooms.
The homecoming parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, with its traditional route down Third Street from Fair Avenue. All-college alumni receptions will follow from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Landmark Inn. A Funky Folk Dance featuring U.P. Gumbo will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the Ore Dock Brewing Company on Spring Street in Marquette. Admission is free and limited to individuals 21 and older.
Saturday’s events include an NMU Game Day block party from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Third Street between Kaye and Magnetic streets. The block party will feature free music, children’s activities inflatable arcade jumps and a photo and video booth. Food from local restaurants will be available for purchase.
The NMU-Ashland football game kicks off at 2 p.m. in the Superior Dome. The fifth-quarter alumni reception will take place at 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn.
