One Book, One Community Events Announced

            MARQUETTE, Mich.— The One Book, One Community program will host several fall events revolving around this year’s selection, A Mountain of Crumbs, a memoir by Elena Gorokhova. All activities are free and open to the public.

            At 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, the film Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears will be shown in the Peter White Public Library community room. Directed by Vladimir Menshov, this Soviet production won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1980. The film is 142 minutes and there will be an intermission with Russian refreshments.

           A book discussion will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Shiras Room at Peter White Public Library.

           Also at the library, Soviet-born Masha Korokhova will give a presentation on her homeland’s cuisine. “A Taste of Russia” begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11.

           A second public book discussion will be helf at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Snowbound Books on Third Street in Marquette.

           A presentation on Russian architecture will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Great Lakes Room of the University Center at Northern Michigan University. This will be led by NMU Russian instructor Dinara Fisher.

           Finally, the author of A Mountain of Crumbs, Elena Gorokhova, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center at NMU.
