MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre recently announced its 2012-13 season. Productions range from a musical about America’s founding fathers to a modern wartime drama. All events take place in Forest Roberts Theatre unless otherwise noted.
            The 2012-13 season will feature the following plays and events:
            The musical “1776” will be performed Wednesday, Oct. 10, to Saturday, Oct. 13. It follows America’s founding fathers the summer of 1776, as they struggle to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from British rule. This production will be presented in modern dress.
            The annual “Haunted Theatre” will take place Thursday, Oct. 25, to Saturday, Oct. 27. The Forest Roberts Theatre is transformed into a haunted house, designed for all ages. There will be a child-friendly version, as well as one rated PG-13.
            The play “Bears” will be performed Wednesday, Nov. 14, through Saturday, Nov. 17. Written by the 2011-12 Panowski Playwriting Competition winner Mark Rigney, “Bears”follows the exploits of three captive bears who have left the safety of the zoo and now must learn how to survive in the wilderness.
            The comedy “Santaland Diaries”will be performed Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8. Based on the David Sedaris essay of the same name, this play follows one man’s experience working as a department store elf. Please note this is for mature audiences.
            The wartime drama “Fallujah”will be performed Wednesday, Feb. 20, through Saturday, Feb. 23. “Fallujah” follows an American journalist who has chosen to be embedded with troops in Iraq. The journalist ends up befriending the Marines he is working with and is captivated by their stories about combat and home life.
            The NMU “Lab Shows” will take place Wednesday, April 3, through Saturday, April 6, in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. They will feature “How He Lied to Her Husband,” directed by theater major Pierce Huxtable, and “Sorry, Wrong Number,” directed by theater major Jackie Wiles.
            The musical comedy “Legally Blonde” will be performed Wednesday, April 17, through Saturday, April 20. “Legally Blonde” follows college sorority girl Elle Woods, who decides to win back her ex-boyfriend by enrolling in Harvard Law School.
