Coffee House Concert Jan. 19 at NMU

Monday 7, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Gratiot Lake Road of Calumet and Krebs Cycle of Marquette will be the featured bands at the next Beaumier Coffee House Series concert at Northern Michigan University. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Peter White Lounge of the University Center. Admission is free, with donations encouraged.

Named after a road leading to a lake by the same name deep in the Keweenaw, Gratiot Lake Road performs originals about nightmares on Lake Superior’s shores, the inevitableness of winter following autumn, and the ruins and relics of the industrial copper mining boom that are still strewn across the peninsula from 100 years ago. Gratiot Lake Road formed in 2009 and is typically a duo, but has played with friends who join in on various instruments, depending on who’s in town.

Krebs Cycle is a trio of Marquette musicians specializing in old-time, bluegrass and country songs. Members are Doug Kitchel on banjo, Brent Graves on mandolin and vocals and Jeff Krebs (Papa Crow) on guitar and vocals.

This concert is part of the Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival, which is funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
