MLK Events Planned at NMU

            MARQUETTE, Mich.— Northern Michigan University will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a series of events from Monday, Jan. 21, to Thursday, Jan. 24.

            The televised inauguration of President Barack Obama will be shown at 11 a.m. Monday in the Peter White Lounge of the University Center.

            The film Precious Knowledge will be shown and a Q&A will follow with the film’s producer, Eren McGinnis. The film screening is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, in Jamrich 102. Precious Knowledge is a documentary about the banning of the Mexican-American studies program in Tucson, Ariz. schools.

            Finally, a panel discussion on ethnic studies will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in Jamrich 102.

            These events are sponsored by the President’s Council on Diversity, the English and education departments, the Multicultural Education and Resource Center and  NMU’s Dining Services.
