'Waist Away' Author Speaks at NMU

Monday 18, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Dr. Mary Clifton, co-author of “Waist Away: How to Joyfully Lose Weight and Supercharge Your Life,” will share her passion for plant-based diets and whole foods during a presentation at Northern Michigan University. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 27, in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center. It is free and open to the public. A recipe tasting and book signing will follow the presentation.

Clifton is an internal medicine specialist with 17 years’ experience and a professor at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. A routine physical six years ago turned into a wake-up call. Diagnosed with pre-diabetes and elevated cholesterol, Clifton researched pharmaceutical options and decided to modify her diet instead. Her blood sugar is back to high school levels and her cholesterol dropped by 70 points.

“Waist Away: How to Joyfully Lose Weight and Supercharge Your Life” is co-authored by Clifton and her daughter, Chelsea Klemens, an OB/GYN physician in Manhattan. It is available locally at Snowbound Books and the Marquette Food Co-op or at Amazon. This presentation is sponsored by NMU Dining Services.
