Marquette Choral Society Performs April 27-28

The Marquette Choral Society will present a concert of sacred choral works, titled "A Mighty Fortress: Sacred Music for All Seasons", on Saturday, April 27 at 7:30 PM and on Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 PM at the Reynolds Recital Hall on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette.
The program features a festival of well-known songs, many of them Lutheran in origin, arranged by composers Heinrich Schutz, Hans Leo Hassler, Hugo Distler, Michael Praetorius, Johann Walter, Dieterich Buxtehude and Felix Mendelssohn as found in the Chantry Choirbook published by Augsburg Fortress Press.
Dr. Floyd Slotterback directs the Marquette Choral Society and Lynne Koski Lanczy is the accompanist.
The annual 2013 Upper Peninsula Choral Leadership Award will be presented to Eleanor Burla of Bessemer, retired public school music teacher and community musical organizer, and to Dr. James Livingston, NMU retired English professor, bass singer and writer for untold years of program notes for the Choral Society. This is the 21st year that the Choral Society has recognized excellence in teaching, conducting and/or support of choral music for a period of at least 10 years in the Upper Peninsula.
Tickets are $10 each, and may be purchased at all NMU EZ Ticket outlets at the Superior Dome, the NMU Bookstore, the Forest Roberts Theatre Box Office, or at the door if not sold out.
