NMU Student Theater Awards Presented

            MARQUETTE, Mich.— The theater program at Northern Michigan University recently held its Drama Prom, where student awards were presented. The evening consisted of a social hour, dinner, senior skits, awards ceremony and dance. Each year, the faculty honors students for academic awards and contributions to theater.

            The First Nighters Club sponsored the new Jimmy Awards in conjunction with the Drama Prom. The awards are named in honor of James Panowski and the late James Rapport, longtime NMU faculty members who directed many productions.

            Award recipients are listed below with their hometowns:

Michigan

Big Rapids: Jacob Barbot, special achievement in performance in “Santaland Diaries” and a superior rating of 5.00 on performance juries; Boyne City: Billy Raveau, outstanding achievement by a freshman; Champion: Patrick Bradley, award for outstanding performance in a musical for “Legally Blonde”; Hubbell: Christopher Trevino, outstanding achievement in design for sound design in “Fallujah”; Ironwood: Alycia Heckathorn, academic achievement award for earning a 4.00 GPA and a superior rating of 4.90 on performance juries; Ishpeming: Jalina Olgren, special achievement in design and technology for “Avenue Q” and outstanding achievement by a graduating senior; Kalamazoo: Jesse Morrow, superior rating of 4.91 on performance juries; Lowell: Kristy Priest, outstanding achievement by a senior; Marquette: Susan Boyle, outstanding performance by a leading actress in a musical for “Legally Blonde” and the good housekeeping award for scene shop; Menominee: James Porras II, outstanding cameo performance by an actor or actress for “Avenue Q” and outstanding achievement by a sophomore; Ovid: Shane Vincent, outstanding achievement by a junior and a superior rating of 4.54 on performance juries; Paw Paw: Jackie Wiles, outstanding performance by a leading actress in a play for “Bears”; Traverse City: Darin Casler, outstanding performance by a featured actor in a play in “Fallujah”;

Wisconsin

Beloit: Alexandra Marks, outstanding performance by a featured actress in a musical in “Legally Blonde”, outstanding achievement by a newcomer/transfer, and a superior rating of 4.83 on performance juries; Eau Claire: Meghan Marquardt, outstanding performance by a featured actress in a play for “Bears”; Green Bay: Charlie Jauquet, outstanding achievement in design for “Avenue Q”; Neenah: Pierce Huxtable, outstanding performance by a featured actor in a musical for “Avenue Q,” outstanding achievement in design for sound design in “Fallujah” and a Superior Rating of 4.79 on Performance Juries; Merrimac: Adam Lowe, outstanding performance by a leading actor in a play in “Bears” and a superior rating on performance juries of 4.72;
