Special NMU Presentations at Marquette County Fair

Friday 2, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Three special presentations will be featured at the Northern Michigan University booth at the 2013 Marquette County Fair, which takes place Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 8-11.

At 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Kathy Richards and Jim Thams of the NMU engineering and planning office will be on hand to discuss and show architectural sketches of the university’s two new facilities: a renewable energy plant set to open this fall and the academic building under construction, which is set to replace the current Jamrich Hall, NMU’s largest academic building.

At 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jeff Noble, an instructor in the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, will be on hand to discuss NMU’s new wildland firefighting academic minor and certificate program, for which classes begin this fall. Noble, a retired wildland firefighter, will demonstrate some of the equipment used in wildland firefighting and talk about career opportunities.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, new Wildcat men’s basketball coach Bill Sall and assistant coach Bill Hill will be at the booth to introduce themselves to the public, as well as to oversee a children’s hoops shooting contest.

Information about the university, giveaways and drawings will be available at the NMU booth throughout the fair. The Marquette County Fairgrounds are located on M-553 between Gwinn and Marquette. Hours, admissions prices and a detailed schedule of fair events are available at www.marquettecountyfair.org.
