Coffee House Concert Series Opens Sept. 7

Friday 16, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Beaumier Coffee House Series returns for its third season on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Northern Michigan University. The opening concert features a trio of original artists from Marquette: Tyler Detloff, Heather Evans and Sunset Machine. It begins at 7 p.m. in the Peter White Lounge of the University Center. Admission is free.

Detloff and Evans are singer/songwriters known for their solo work and as members of other groups. Both play in the band Lost Dog & the Big Hustle. Detloff also plays with Kiddy/Wompus, while Evans played last year at the Coffee House in the duo, Team Awesome. They will join forces at the Beaumier series, backing up each other on their original solo tunes. They recently released a joint cassette titled “Strange Soil.”

Sunset Machine is an eclectic, independent band focusing on original songs and music. Songwriters Tony Parlatto and Joe Secreast represent the core of the group and perform with a host of guest musicians. With influences that range from Bob Dylan and Wilco to indie pop and alt rock to 70s funk and rhythm and blues, the Machine are all over the map in a way that makes each trip with them an adventure. Sunset Machine is currently at work recording and mixing its first CD.

This concert is funded in part by a grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
