MARQUETTE— Northern Michigan University’s 2013 Homecoming celebration includes activities for alumni and community members. It will culminate on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21, with the parade, all-alumni reception, community block party and football game.

The Homecoming parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday on Third Street. In the event of inclement weather, it will be postponed to Saturday. Also on Friday night, the All-Alumni Reception with free appetizers and a cash bar will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Landmark Inn.

Saturday’s events include the NMU Game Day community block party from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Third Street between Kaye and Magnetic. It features food vendors, free inflatable games, face painting, pony rides and student performances. There will also be a special appearance by the NMU Marching Band and opportunities to interact with Wildcat Willy, along with NMU coaches and athletes. The celebration leads up to the Wildcats’ Homecoming football game against Ohio Dominican at 3 p.m. in the Superior Dome. The fifth quarter post-game party starts at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn.

Several designated groups will participate in special activities during the celebration. They include the 50th reunion group for classes 1962-64; a cheerleader reunion; Recapalooza, for current and former staff members of Recreational Sports; a Buck Nystrom group to honor the legendary football coach; a men’s swimming and diving team reunion; and Alpha Kappa Psi. All of these groups will be recognized during halftime of the football game.
