NMU Homecoming King and Queen Selected

Thursday 26, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Hau Khuong of De Pere, Wis., and Sydney Landers of Marquette were voted 2013 Homecoming king and queen at Northern Michigan University. Contestants competed in theme wear and semi-formal dress categories in the separate king and queen divisions. An audience vote determined the top five semifinalists, who advanced to the question-and-answer round. A panel of judges determined the final outcome based on each contestant’s responses.

“Winning homecoming is one of the best experiences of my life,” said Khuong. “The campus apartment staff and tenants really deserve the credit, though, because without them, I wouldn't have won.”

Landers added, “The whole experience was really fun and allowed me to see some of the hard work put in behind the scenes to make Homecoming such a success. I'm very glad I got to experience this in my college years and share it with the most amazing homecoming court ever.”

First runners-up in the king and queen competition were Mikenzie Frost of Davison, Mich., and Jerry Allen of Clarkston, Mich. Second runners-up were Brent Larsen of Denmark, Wis., and Alexis McCutcheon of Elk Grove Village, Ill.

The competition was emceed by comedian Matt Kirshen. NMU’s Homecoming celebration was held Sept. 15-21.
