MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University’s 2013-14 Theater Studio Series will present A Kind of Alaska by Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter on Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre in the McClintock Building.

Oliver Sack's 1973 memoir, Awakenings, was an inspiration for the play, which is the story of a middle-aged woman who awakens from a comatose state to a 16-year-old mind and a changed body and world.

The play is directed by theater and entertainment arts major York Griffith of Farmington as part of his senior capstone project.

“I am having a great time exploring this fascinating play with this great cast,” said Griffiths. “Harold Pinter is one of the most important playwrights of the last 50 years and working on this play, you can see why he was honored with the Nobel Prize.”

General admission tickets are $5 and are available through the Forest Roberts Theatre box office. The play features NMU students Jesse Morrow of Kalamazoo, John Scheibe of Iron Mountain and Elizabeth Trueblood of Onalaska, Wis.
