Community's Impact on Health Explored

Thursday 16, 2014

MARQUETTE, Mich.—The next event in the Your Health lecture series at Northern Michigan University is titled “Does Your Community Impact Your Health?” It will be presented by Dr. Greg Holzman, associate chair of preventative medicine and medical director of the Family Medicine Network at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. His talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in Reynolds Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Holzman will explore the undeniable link between community and personal health, why access to health care doesn’t necessarily lead to a healthy population and whether more resources should be focused on prevention. In his former capacity as chief medical executive for the Michigan Department of Community Health, he advocated smoke-free legislation and sought funding for a statewide trauma system.

Your Health is co-sponsored by NMU, Marquette General, a Duke LifePoint hospital, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Upper Peninsula Campus.
