Talk on Biology and Homosexuality Opens NMU Reader Program

Friday 14, 2014

MARQUETTE, Mich.—A presentation on current research in biology and homosexuality will be the first event in Northern Michigan University’s Diversity Common Reader Program, which is built around John Corvino’s What’s Wrong with Homosexuality? NMU biology professor Erich Ottem will discuss the topic at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Mead Auditorium. The public is invited free of charge.

Corvino is the author of a weekly column, “The Gay Moralist.” He has traversed the country responding to moral and religious arguments against same-sex relationships. His book shares that experience and adopts a “sensitive, precise and good-humored” approach to questions about whether the Bible condemns homosexuality, if people are born gay and whether homosexuality is unnatural.

Other presentations and book discussions revolving around the book, including a campus visit by the author, will be held in late March and early April. Details on those will be released later.
