MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan University’s music department will present Carrie Biolo in a faculty percussion recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Biolo will be performing on an array of percussion instruments, including an amplified tam-tam, xylophone, marimba, vibraphone and coffee grinder. She will also perform an original composition, Circadian Rhythms, Two Dimensions of Time Occupy a Single Space.The work is inspired by New York Times bestseller The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker, and explores the relationship between a constant ticking clock and a slowing rotation.

Other works on the program include a drama for solo xylophone, Joseph Schwantner’s Velocities for solo marimba, Gordon Stout’s Mexican Dances and a work by St. Louis Symphony Orchestra percussionist for amplified tam-tam.

Biolo is an established performer of contemporary music, working closely with composers such as Guillermo Gregorio, Gerhard Stäbler, Amnon Wolman, Jeff Kowalkowski, Rob Mazurek and Michael Pisaro. She has recorded more than 25 CDs on various labels including Delmark, HatART, Rino and Uvulittle.
