Northern Michigan University is the host of two student leader meetings this weekend. Mu Beta Psi, a national music honor society, is holding its national convention on campus Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, in the Explorer Rooms while the Student Association of Michigan (SAM) is holding one of its statewide meetings here Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, in the Charcoal Room, both at the University Center.

This is the first time for the Mu Beta Psi convention to be held at NMU. Some media opportunities to cover the event include:

Opening day talent show at 7 p.m. Friday in the Cadillac Room, U.C. General assembly from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Cadillac Room, U.C.. Closing banquet at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Marquette’s Holiday Inn.

The SAM meeting will include representatives from 12 of Michigan’s 15 public universities. The group is dedicated to representing the more than 300,000 university students in the state. It meets eight times a year and reviews topics important to college students on a state and national basis, discusses how Michigan’s current political landscape might impact the state’s college students and develops collaborative programs and initiative for the 15 campuses.

A media opportunity during the SAM meeting is the 2 p.m. Saturday presentation on job retention in Marquette and within the state being given by Marquette Mayor Bob Niemi and City Manager Bill Vajda, which will be held in the Charcoal Room.
