Service Learning Expert Visits NMU

            MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan University will host Edward Zlotkowski, a nationally recognized expert in academic service learning. Zlotkowski will speak on the role of academic service learning in first-year experience programs at 7:45 a.m. Friday, April 11, in the Charcoal room at the University Center. The event is part of the “Breakfast With” series which is free and open to the public.

            Zlotkowski, a professor of English and media studies at Bentley University, founded the Bentley Service-Learning Center, the country’s oldest business-education based service-learning program. He has published numerous books on service learning and served as general editor of Anker’s Successful Service-Learning Programs; the University of South Carolina’s Service Learning and the First-Year Experience; and the American Association for Higher Education’s 21-volume series on service learning in the academic disciplines.
