First Nations Food Taster Nov. 7
Northern Michigan University’s Native American Student Association will host its 14th annual First Nations Food Taster from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the NMU Jacobetti Complex. This year’s menu features Decolonizing Diet Project recipes such as bison/venison meatloaf, wild rice, roasted goose, pumpkin cornbread, crabapple sauce and sunbutter cookies, along with contemporary Native dishes such as the three sisters casserole. Retired music professor Elda Tate will play Native American flute.
Advanced tickets can be purchased through Nov. 5 at 112 Whitman Hall or 3001 Hedgcock. They cost $5 for students with ID/elders and $12 for the public. Tickets purchased at the door cost $7 for students with ID/elders/children ages 5-10 and $15 for the public. To help reduce waste, attendees will be entered into a prize raffle for bringing personal dish bags with dinnerware, utensils and napkins.
This event is a fundraiser for the NMU “Learning to Walk Together” traditional powwow in March. For more information, call 227-1397.
