MARQUETTE, Mich. — Author and journalist Charlie LeDuff will visit Northern Michigan University to discuss his book, Detroit: An American Autopsy, the featured selection for this year’s One Book, One Community program. LeDuff will give a presentation and reading at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12. He will also hold a question-and-answer session earlier that day at 1 p.m. Both events are free and will be held in the University Center Great Lakes Rooms.

Two related activities will take place on Monday, Nov. 10. From 10-11 a.m., WNMU-FM will rebroadcast an NPR “Fresh Air” program that features an interview of LeDuff by host Terry Gross. A panel discussion titled “What’s Next for Detroit?” will be held at 7 p.m. in the University Center Brule Room. Panelists are: Glenn Stevens, vice president of MICHauto; Mary Zatina, vice president of government relations and corporate communications at Oakwood Healthcare Inc.; and Carter Wilson, head of the NMU political science department.

LeDuff is a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who has worked with such outlets as The New York Times and the Detroit News. His book explores the past and future of what was once the richest city in America through the eyes of a Michigan-raised journalist. Following the strong, yet strange characters found only in Motown, the author makes comical the absurdity of 21st century American life and makes hopeful Detroit’s redemption.
