MARQUETTE, Mich.−Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed Marquette residents Robert Mahaney and Tami Seavoy to the Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees. The eight-person board is the university’s governing body.

"I am confident Tami and Robert will bring great insight and ideas to the board. I thank them for their willingness to serve," said Snyder.

NMU President Fritz Erickson said, “We are thrilled with today’s announcement of two local community leaders to our board of trustees. Tami and Robert bring a wealth of experience and great ties to the community. We look forward to working with them as we set the course to better serve the needs of our students, our community and our region.”

Mahaney is president and founder of The Veridea Group LLC. He serves on the board of directors for the Mackinac Financial Corp. and mBank, is a board member and past president of the Noquemanon Trail Network and serves on the advisory board for the Gerstacker Institute for Business Management at Albion College. He has taught marketing and accounting courses as an adjunct instructor in NMU’s College of Business. Mahaney also is a certified public accountant. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Albion College and a master’s degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He replaces Gilbert Ziegler.

“I am honored and excited to have this opportunity to serve NMU,” Mahaney said. “Over the past 30+ years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the vital role Northern plays in higher education in Michigan and particularly the Upper Peninsula. I look forward to working with all of the university’s stakeholders toward helping Northern continue to fulfill its mission in education and the community.”

Seavoy is an attorney with Kendricks, Bordeau, Adamini, Greenlee & Keefe, P.C. She served as in-house corporate counsel for Marquette General Hospital Inc. Seavoy is a member of the Michigan Bar Association, Marquette County Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association. She is a member of the Bay Cliff Health Camp board of directors and the NMU College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council. She also is an NMU Student Leader Fellowship Program mentor and serves as a volunteer librarian for Father Marquette Catholic School. Seavoy earned a bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Michigan. She replaces Stephen Adamini.

“I appreciate Governor Snyder’s trust in appointing me, and I look forward to meeting President Erickson and the impressive group of people currently serving on the NMU Board of Trustees,” said Seavoy.

Mahaney and Seavoy will serve eight-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2022. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
