Fueled by popular demand, there will be a second showing of the award-winning documentary Finnish Blood Swedish Heart at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University. The center is located in 105 Cohodas Hall. Admission is free.   

This will also be a final opportunity to see the Beaumier Center’s current exhibit, “They Left 150 Years Ago,” featuring photographs by Jason DeBose of contemporary Finland and Finnish-America. DeBose will make a presentation to the City of Marquette on behalf of its sister city, Kajanni, Finland. The photo exhibit closes March 28. 

Finnish Blood Swedish Heart is a 2013 documentary by Mika Ronkainen about a Finnish father and son revisiting their former home in Sweden. The film deals with the issue of Finnish/Swedish immigration: an emotive subject to many people from Nordic countries.

The film won two Jussi Awards (Finnish Oscars) in 2014: best documentary and best music. It also won the Dragon Award for best Nordic documentary at the Göteborg Film Festival in February 2013.
