Actress Brings Play About Writer Willa Cather to NMU

Wednesday 30, 2015

MARQUETTE, Mich.— Actress and writer Prudence Wright Holmes will bring her one-woman show, Call Me William: The Life and Loves of Willa Cather, to Northern Michigan University on Saturday, Oct. 10. In 1888, Cather “astounded” her Nebraska neighbors with her mind and cross-dressing ways. She had a successful career in publishing and wrote best-selling novels My Antonia and Death Comes for the Archbishop. She won a Pulitzer Prize in 1923.

According to www.willacathershow.com “In spite of her success, her romantic life was fraught with conflict. Her work became her refuge and helped her to transcend the problems that beset her. ‘That is happiness, to be dissolved in something complete and great,’ she often said.”

Holmes, who stars as Cather, has appeared in featured roles in two Sister Act films, Kingpin and Boardwalk Empire.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. Ticket prices are: $15 for the general public; $10 for students; and $5 for NMU students. They can be purchased at the Forest Roberts Theatre Box Office or at any EZ Ticket outlet. Proceeds will support the First Nighters Club Scholarship fund. For more information, contact the Box Office at (906)-227-2082.
