Legacy of Challenger Astronaut Explored

Monday 21, 2016

Please note the March 25 registration deadline.

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will host a program on “Challenger” astronaut Ron McNair’s legacy and the McNair Scholars Program at Northern Michigan University. McNair persevered in the face of poverty and prejudice to achieve a doctorate in physics before he was selected for the ill-fated “Challenger" mission. The McNair Scholars Program provides scholarships, support and mentoring to recipients of this award.

Heather Pickett, director of NMU's McNair Scholars Program, will discuss its history and purpose. Some of the NMU Scholars will share their research, program experiences and how it is preparing them for graduate school, a career and life beyond.

The event runs from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in the Whitman Hall Commons. Cost is $3 for NCLL members and $8 for non-members. Register by March 25 by calling 227-2979.
