Media Advisory: Marquette-Baraga Dental Day April 23

Tuesday 19, 2016

Media are invited to cover Marquette-Baraga Dental Day, an event offering free oral health care services for uninsured and underinsured adults from both counties. The event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the West Ishpeming Dental Center (125 N. Pansy St.). A symbolic ribbon-cutting with volunteers and state representatives will be held at noon. Appointments were filled through a previous registration period for qualifying adults at up to 250 percent of the federal poverty line.

The Upper Peninsula Area Health Education Center (UP-AHEC) based at Northern Michigan University is hosting the event. Patients will receive free cleanings, fillings and extractions, as well as information about community resources, prevention and nutrition. The mission of Dental Day is to restore dignity through volunteerism and caring by providing oral health services. UP-AHEC received  $3,000 from the Delta Dental Foundation to help support the event.

Suggested media contacts are Cindy Noble, executive director of UP-AHEC, and Dr. Brian Anderson, dental director at West Ishpeming Dental Center.
