Superior International Camp Begins Today

Monday 6, 2016

The Olympic Training Site at NMU is hosting its third annual Superior International Camp this week. The event is filled to capacity, with about 115 cadet and junior-age wrestlers, including a team from Sweden, staying on campus. The wrestlers will learn Greco-Roman technique, improve their skills and knowledge and compete in multiple matches under the guidance of NMU-OTS coaches Rob Hermann and Aghasi Manukyan.

The camp provides U.S. athletes the opportunity to train alongside an international team and also to prepare for summer competitions. Joining the camp will be members of USA Wrestling’s Junior World Championships Team, which will compete Aug. 30-Sept. 4 in Macon, France. The NMU-OTS has three athletes on that team.

Training will consist of four days of practice and two days of competition, giving every wrestler an opportunity to wrestle multiple matches.

“This is the time to make mistakes and learn from them,” said NMU coach Rob Hermann. “With a strong international team and top U.S. participants, athletes will be able to pick up new skills and work on any weaknesses they may have.”
