Media Advisory: Teachers Build 3D Printers

Friday 29, 2016

Media are welcome to cover the following event: More than 20 Upper Peninsula teachers will visit Northern Michigan University's Seaborg Center to learn how to build and program their own 3D printers from scratch. It is part of UP Project SMILE (Science & Mathematics Integrated with Literacy through Engineering). The program focuses on educational applications of emerging technologies to meet new education standards in Michigan, as well as explore integrating content areas for student learning.

About 120 U.P. teachers are participating at different sites throughout the region, including the Seaborg Center.  Ideal times to obtain photos/video of the 3D printer work would be from Monday afternoon through Wednesday (Aug. 1-3) in West Science 2702. The workshop hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will continue Thursday and Friday. The following week (Aug. 8-12), the teachers will learn GIS on Monday and Tuesday and then do inside lab work and outside field work off campus on Wednesday and Thursday/

Please contact the Seaborg Center at 227-2002 if you plan to attend or for more information.
