Charu Sharma, founder of Go Against the Flow, a movement that inspires women to take intelligent risks, trust their vision and develop leadership skills to forge their own trail in the world of startups, will screen her film by the same name at Northern Michigan University. She built two startup companies in her college dorm room before joining LinkedIn as a marketing solutions campaign planner. The showing is scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building. It is free and open to the public.

The Go Against the Flow project includes a book, an ongoing series published in The Huffington Post and a film. The documentary relays the wisdom of top women entrepreneurs who share their stories of building a business from scratch and being resilient. Participants include the founders of Cloudflare, Getaround, Women Who Code, Kabam, Remedy, Rockhealth and Zinepak. The women share their struggles, success stories and actionable advice on hiring, fundraising, building technology and scaling.

Sharma will also be the keynote speaker at the NMU College of Business Entrepreneurship Conference earlier in the day. The conference theme is “Women in Entrepreneurship.”

Originally from India, Sharma has visited all seven continents and 44 countries. She attended Mount Holyoke College and now resides in San Francisco.
