Free Quilting Talks, Workshop Planned

Tuesday 25, 2016

Northern Michigan University’s DeVos Art Museum will host a discussion and workshop titled “Quilting Then and Now: Giveaways, Swaps and Conversations.” It is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. Admission is free.

The event features talks by Rachel May, English faculty member and author of “Quilting with a Modern Slant,” and Judy Parlato, Marquette County Quilt Association historian. May will explore how the history of quilting has led to today’s so-called “modern quilt movement.” Parlato will examine Union and Confederate Civil War quilt examples from the American Quilt Study Group exhibition on display at the museum.

Other activities include experimenting with materials and creating a block to take home, a fabric swap and giveaways of thread, fabric and books. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
