Folk Music Workshops, Coffee House Concert March 11

A Folk Music School Preview and a Coffee House Concert will take place Saturday, March 11, at Northern Michigan University to help promote the Folk Music School. It will entail free folk music workshops throughout the day for people of all ages. Each workshop will take place at the NMU University Center.

From 12-12:50 p.m., the workshops include “Creative Process for Songwriters” with Sue Demel, “Basic Folk Guitar” with Dan Truckey and “Accordion 101” with Tim Clancy. From 1-1:50 p.m., the workshops include “Improv Vocal” with Sue Demel, “Fiddle 101” with Barb Rhyneer and “Basic Music Recording and Production” with Mark Shevy. From 2-2:50 p.m., the workshops include “Folk Percussion” with Tim DeMarte and “Workshopping that Song” with Dan Truckey.

The Coffee House Concert will feature some of the Folk Music School Faculty and will commence at 7 p.m. at the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. Dan Truckey, Dave Zeigner, The Knockabouts and Sue Demel will be performing.

The Folk Music School is a summer camp opportunity for high school musicians running Sunday, July 16-Wednesday, July 19. The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, NMU music department and local folk musicians will host the event. For more information, contact Dan Truckey at heritage@nmu.edu.
