NMU Students Offer Free Tax Help

Wednesday 1, 2017

Northern Michigan University students are staffing a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site on campus.  VITA is a national program offering free basic income tax return preparation to individuals who make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers. The students are IRS-certified and represent Beta Alpha Psi, NMU's accounting and finance professional organization.

NMU volunteers will be available from 5:30-7 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday through April 17 in the University Center Trading Lab. They are available to assist qualified students, employees and community members.

“Beta Alpha Psi operates a VITA site every year because it provides an excellent opportunity for our members to give back to the community,” said Beta Alpha Psi member Emily Saunders. “It also allows our members to gain a valuable professional experience that they can put on their resume.”
