The Northern Michigan University Music Department will continue its Guest Artist Series with two upcoming performances in Reynolds Recital Hall. Marquette native and soprano Stephanie Beinlich will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15. Brian Carter will present a horn concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19. Admission is free to both events.

Beinlich is a versatile soprano with extensive experience onstage and behind the scenes. Recent solo engagements include Mozart’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer, Zelter’s Kantata auf den Tod Friedrichs, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, Derr’s I Never Saw Another Butterfly and Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians. In 2011, she studied with Seraphic Fire at the Professional Choral Institute, where she sang on their Grammy-nominated recording of Brahms' Ein deutches Requiem. Other recent recordings include Beneath the Ice, the debut album of composer George Fetner.

Onstage, Beinlich has been seen most recently as Cunegonde in Candide, Franca in The Light in the Piazza and as the title role in Cendrillon. All were at USC, where she completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice performance. She also holds degrees in voice and pedagogy from Western Michigan University and the University of South Carolina. Beinlich is on faculty with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and has previously taught at Newberry College and the University of North Dakota.

Carter is principal horn of the Marquette Symphony and Gaylord Community Orchestra. He also performs with the Midland Symphony Orchestra, Sault Symphony Orchestra, Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and other groups throughout Upper and northern Lower Michigan. He participated in the 2013 Vianden International Music Festival and Italy’s Ischia Chamber Music Festival in 2015 and 2016. He is scheduled to perform the Horn Trio in E-flat by Johannes Brahms in Naples, Italy in 2017.

Carter received his Bachelor of Music degree from Olivet College and his Master of Music degree from Michigan State University. He retired in 2013 as director of bands at Gaylord Middle School.
