NMU Presents 'Addams Family' Musical
Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre is presenting the musical version of The Addams Family. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5-Saturday, April 8, with additional 1 p.m. matinee performances Saturday and Sunday.
In this musical comedy, Wednesday has grown up and fallen in love with a young man from a respectable family. Gomez, her father who has never lied, must keep a secret about Wednesday’s relationship from his wife, Morticia. Chaos ensues as the Addams Family hosts a dinner for Wednesday’s normal boyfriend and his parents.
The cast of 23 performers is primarily composed of NMU students, as well as a few community members. An ensemble of Addams Family ancestors, such as a 1920s flapper and a World War I soldier, join the familiar Addams Family characters onstage.
“The audience will be able to laugh and forget about the ordinary world, as they will be transported into a world of craziness and oddness,” said NMU theater student Devin Murphy, who plays the role of Gomez Addams. “Audiences will relive the Addams Family memories they grew up with.”
In addition to singing and acting, the production includes several large dance numbers.
“The show brings dancing to new heights,” said Murphy. “In particular, the tango displays the close relationship that Gomez and Morticia have, and is a stunning spectacle for the audience.”
Tickets are $15 for the public, $10 for students and $5 for NMU students. Tickets are available online at tickets.nmu.edu or at any NMU EZ Ticket outlet. For more information on the event, contact the Forest Roberts Theatre Box Office at (906) 227-2082 or via email at frtbox@gmail.com.
