NMU Homecoming Events Planned
Northern Michigan University’s 2017 Homecoming celebration will include events for alumni and community members Sept. 22-23. All are free unless otherwise indicated.
The Homecoming Parade begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, on Third Street between Fair Avenue and Hewitt Street. It will include athletic teams, the marching band, cheerleaders and decorated floats and cars. The NMU Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony follows at 6 p.m. in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center. Tickets are required and cost $30 for adults and $15 for children 10 and under. This year’s inductees are Mandee Dafoe, Pauline Hope (Schuette), Abigail Larson, Jay McQuillan, Rick Popp and the 1979-80 Hockey Team.
The All Alumni Reception will take place at the Landmark Inn from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.
Saturday’s events begin with a Bagels & Books family program from 9-11 a.m. in Lydia Olson Library, followed by a Learning Resources Center Open House until 2 p.m. A family friendly pre-game tailgate begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Superior Dome. It features a performance from the NMU Pride of the North Marching Band, bouncy houses, lawn games, a photo booth and a DJ. A barbecue buffet will be available for purchase. The NMU Football team will host Davenport at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at NMU EZ Ticket outlets or www.nmu.edu/tickets. A 5th Quarter Celebration will take place at the Holiday Inn after the game, with food and a cash bar.
The new NMU Hospitality Gala will be held from 7-11 p.m. at the Marquette Commons. The event highlights NMU's hospitality management program. It features unique food stations hosted by alumni chefs and current students, music, giveaways and more. It also promotes local foods and their connection to the profession. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased on Eventbrite.com. For more information, click here.
