NMU Presents Choirs and Alumni Concert

Monday 5, 2018

Northern Michigan University’s music department will present its University Choir and Arts Chorale Alumni Concert, with participation from Forest Roberts Theatre and Dance. The free performance begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in Forest Roberts Theatre.

Alumni and the choirs will perform Set Me as a Seal by René Clausen and The Road Home by Stephen Paulus.

“Our alumni are incredibly important to us and we want to continue our connection with them,” said Director of Choirs Erin Colwitz. “It is really relevant for our current students to interact with those who have come before them, and it’s a chance for alumni to be involved with the University community.”

The University Choir will sing selections by Aaron Copland, Jacques Arcadelt and Moses Hogan. The Arts Chorale will collaborate with Dance Minor Program Director Jill Grundstrom and FRT Theatre and Dance, featuring works that highlight topical social causes written by Craig Hella Johnson, Michael Browne and Jake Runestad. All choirs will combine to perform True Colors by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly.

“We are bringing all of these generations and disciplines together for a special concert,” said Colwitz. “The idea of concluding with True Colors is that we can lift one another up and champion our uniqueness.”

Alumni interested in joining should contact Colwitz at ecolwitz@nmu.edu for music and details.
